Heated tobacco products (HTPs) also known as tobacco heating systems, and heat-not-burn products.

HTP device is a battery-powered system that produces nicotine-containing emissions by heating a stick of compressed tobacco. HTP heats the tobacco just enough to release a nicotine-containing tobacco vapor, but without burning the tobacco.

HTP systems are fully integrated so that the heating device and tobacco sticks for each system must be used together.

The heating process results in the formation of vapor rather than smoke, which is produced through combustion.

"Tar" is the residue from smoke after a cigarette has burned.
